Apply CASB controls to users accessing cloud-based applications.
Enforce application control, USB control, URL filtering, and firmware upgrade policies. Send any suspicious files to a Fabric Sandbox. The connection to the Security Fabric can either be a FortiGate Next-generation Firewall or SASE service. Enable the device to connect securely to the Security Fabric over either VPN (SSL or IPsec) or ZTNA tunnels, both encrypted. Report to the Security Fabric on the status of a device, including applications running and firmware version. It also enables secure, remote connectivity to the Security Fabric. A Fabric Agent is a bit of endpoint software that runs on an endpoint, such as a laptop or mobile device, that communicates with the Fortinet Security Fabric to provide information, visibility, and control to that device. So all I am wondering is what the "Remote Gateway" that FortiClient is asking for?Īgain, I am completely new to this so I would appreciate it if you're gentle because I'm very willing to learn, but I'm just still starting out.FortiClient is a Fabric Agent that delivers protection, compliance, and secure access in a single, modular lightweight client. Searching online for a definition just brings up articles about a server software called "Remote Desktop Gateway Server", which I believe is different? (although please let me know if I'm wrong!) However, one of the fields it asked for was the "Remote Gateway". I downloaded & installed it, and then tried to set up an SSL-VPN.
I knew I had a free copy of FortiClient available to me through my university. I decided to use Windows Remote Desktop Connection, but to connect two computers that aren't on the same network using that software I need to set up a VPN for my laptop to connect to. I wanted to set up a VPN on my desktop computer so that I could remotely connect to it over the Internet from my laptop. I think I have a basic understanding of how most aspects work in concept, but I'm getting a little lost when trying to actually apply that knowledge in real scenarios. Apologies in advance, I am a complete noob to this and I am just barely dipping my toes into networking for the first time.
